Each device that is connected to the web has a specific identifier named IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes personal computers, web servers, smart phones, switches, and so on. The pool of IP addresses, that was introduced initially, has been distributed, hence the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are steadily getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name that opens an internet site comes with an IP record, that is the address of the server where it's hosted. When using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it comprises of four groups of numbers from 1 to 255 divided using a dot, while in the IPv6 system it is called AAAA and it is comprised of 8 sets of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this kind of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An illustration of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format supports a considerably greater amount of IPs than the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Shared Hosting
If you want to set up a new AAAA record a domain or subdomain hosted inside your shared hosting account, it is not going to take you more than a couple of simple steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is very intuitive to use and it'll allow you to set up or change every single record easily. Once you sign in and visit the DNS Records section, where you can find all present records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you will only have to click on the "New" button, select AAAA from a small drop-down menu inside the pop-up which will show up, input or paste the required IPv6 address and save the change - it's as easy as that. The new record is going to be fully live within a maximum of an hour and the hostname which you have created it for is going to start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If required, you will also be able to change the TTL (Time To Live) value, which shows the time in seconds that the new record will be working after you eventually edit it to something different or you simply erase it.

All of the DNS records for your domain names will be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the same name, so when you go there, you will see all records that have been set up automatically or manually and you will be able to set up a new one by simply clicking the corresponding button. A compact pop-up shall appear, so with several mouse clicks you can select the type of record that you need and for which domain name or subdomain it'll be set up. Afterwards, just paste the IPv6 address within a text box, save the modification and 1 hour later the new AAAA record is going to be 100% functioning. As an optional setting, you can choose the time this record shall be functioning after you modify it or remove it in the future. This is actually the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the default 3600 seconds if the other service provider needs it.
