In case you use an email with your own domain name and not a third-party one, you will be able to use an email application such as Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird to check and administer your email messages. The advantage of using such applications is that you can also take advantage of other features, such as address books and calendars. There are two email protocols that you can choose from when you configure the app of your preference to access your email account – POP3 and IMAP. With the first protocol, all messages that are received will be downloaded onto your device – desktop or mobile, unless you choose to store a copy on the email server. With the second protocol, the email messages will be displayed locally at your end, but they will stay on the server at all times, so you can set up the account on numerous devices and see the email messages from any location. You will also be able to check old emails in case there’s a problem with your Internet connection, which is an immense advantage over web-based services.
