Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they indicate for your web site?
If you'd like to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you'll be able to switch on password protection for a specific folder - either the main website folder or another one below it. If this function is enabled, a pop-up shall appear every time somebody attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link that goes a few levels deeper, so login details shall be necessary for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg when you have protected the domain.com folder. When the credentials are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there isn't any way to get around this restriction, so you can rest assured that no one will be able to access the protected content. The function can be helpful in various scenarios - if only certain people must be able to see specific files, if you are developing a site and you don't want people to see it prior to it being completed, and so forth.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting
When you use any of our
shared hosting packages, you shall be able to create password-protected areas with ease even if you don't have any experience with such matters. We have built in an incredibly easy-to-use point-and-click tool within the Hepsia CP, which comes with all accounts, so you'll be able to protect any folder within merely seconds. You'll simply have to select a domain or a subdomain and the exact folder that should be protected (the primary one or a subfolder), and then to type in the desired username and password that'll be used to access the folder in question at some point. Each and every secured folder shall have padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you'll be able to see easily what content is secured and what is not. If needed, you can create several different sets of login credentials for exactly the same folder.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a
semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to protect any content that you've uploaded using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is a part of, so you will not need to input any code at any time. You'll only have to choose one of the domains/subdomains which you have inside the website hosting account and to pick which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can enter the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be all set. The protection shall be switched on at once, so anyone that tries to access the newly protected folder will have to enter the correct login details. In case a number of individuals have to be able to open the same content, you could set up a separate username for each one.
